A fly-tipper who dumped five tonnes of builders’ rubish in a street has been fined.
Delivery driver Valdecio Da Silva, 30, blocked the footpath and highway when he left the rubble scattered in Redhouse Road, Sutton.
He was caught when a witness spotted him in the act on last September and took down his vehicle’s registration number.
Sutton Magistrates’ Court heard Streetscene Enforcement Officers from Sutton Council found evidence in the waste leading them back to an address in Morden where building work was being carried out.
Builders at the site told officers that Da Silva had been paid £400 to take the waste away.
Da Silva, of St Helier Avenue, Morden, pleaded not guilty to five counts of the illegal deposit of waste, but was found guilty on September 1 this year.
He was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and pay £400 towards the clear-up bill with court costs of £1,425.
Councillor Colin Hall, Sutton Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “We are determined to bring people who blight our neighbourhoods to justice.
“Those who do not respect for our environment and let rubbish pollute Sutton’s streets and open spaces will be tracked down and brought before the courts.
"I would like to thank the good citizen who took down the offender’s registration number and then testified in court.
“I appeal to all residents to let us know if they see anyone fly-tipping – we are all part of the team that keeps Sutton clean.”
