Fire crews had to cut a woman free from her car after it collided with an ambulance in Morden this morning.
The junction of London Road and Crown Lane was closed for more than an hour following the accident just after 9am.
According to witnesses the woman was conscious and talking to paramedics but unable to exit her vehicle with the driver’s door crushed in.
Onlooker Angela Graham, said: “She looked ok but quite shaken - it must have been quite an impact into the door. As far as I could tell it had pushed up against her hip. The paramedics had put her in a neck brace.
“The ambulance looks like the sort of vehicle used to drop elderly or disabled patients off so I can’t imagine it was on an emergency call.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said the woman was in her 20s and had been taken to St George’s Hospital as a priority.
The male driver of the other vehicle was also taken to St George’s but not as a priority, he added.
