Walton High Street is to be transformed in an environmental improvement scheme being carried out by Elmbridge Council.
The Soul to the Street Improvement works aim to raise the profile and identity of the High Street and make it a more attractive destination.
Improvements included safer and environmentally-friendly street lighting, wider footways, flowering trees, new cycle racks and street furniture, new signs, maps and information and gateway features at major entrances to give a sense of arrival and identity.
The project is one of the council’s key ventures. Works are planned to start on September 27, scheduled to keep disruption to local businesses to a minimum.
Portfolio holder for highways and transport, Councillor David Archer, said: “I am delighted that the Soul to the Street project is now being built and look forward to seeing the benefits.
"This is a good example of the council’s commitment to support both the economy and environment for local businesses and residents.”
