James Vaughan has his sights set on relaunching his career after making the switch to Crystal Palace on a three-month loan last week.

The Everton striker made his Eagles debut in the 3-0 defeat at Reading on Saturday, and was expected to feature in Tuesday night’s clash with Portsmouth.

Everything has come full circle for the Toffees star, having made his league debut against Palace in 2005 as a mere 16-year-old.

And the now 22-year-old, who has endured a miserable few years on the injury front, aims to make his mark at Selhurst Park.

Vaughan said: “I feel good, I wanted to come here and I am happy to be here.

“In a way I invented myself as a footballer against Palace and now I want to reinvent myself for Crystal Palace.

“I need to play games - simple as that.

“It is hard training every day knowing you are not going to be playing at the weekend and hopefully that will not be the case here.”

Vaughan dipped into the Championship with loan spells at Derby County and Leicester City last season.

And the England under-21 international revealed he was more than happy to step down a division once more as he looks to battle back from a succession of knee ailments.

Vaughan added: “I have played in this division before so that was not an issue.

“To be honest there was not that much interest in me so it was an easy enough decision to come here.

“The lads have been brilliant and I have been made to feel very welcome.

“The last few years have been incredibly frustrating and I want to put that behind me.

“Obviously the games are coming thick and fast and that is exactly what I want and need.

“Saturday was not the greatest start but I think we will click soon and I look forward to getting a few goals for this club.”
