Innovative films by aspiring Wimbledon directors were showcased on the big screen on Monday.
HMV Curzon collaborated with Wimbledon College of Art to give nine MA students an opportunity to present their work.
General manager of Wimbledon Curzon Jordan Bedding said: “A lot of the films people in this area watch are 'safe choices'.
“Moving Images South will provide an alternative choice and hopefully attract a younger audience to watch independent films.”
For one of the students, Frances Scott, 28, this is her first film work, which is based on the relaxing state induced by hypnosis.
She said: “I hope it will suggest the physical experience of hypnotic trance for the audience.”
The event will also feature the premier of FIASKO by German director Janet Riedel.
It features two separate screens playing still images simultaneously and narrates the story of new beginnings following Auschwitz in a post-apocalyptic Budapest.
Duty manager Dominic de Vere said: “This film is just what this middle class area needs.
Hopefully it will encourage viewers to appreciate their lifestyles more.”
