Mole Valley MP Sir Paul Beresford has called for the Government to reform council funding to make it fairer for people in Surrey.
Sir Paul and four other Surrey MPs wrote to Communities Minister Bob Neill MP saying the current local government funding formula neglects “pockets of lower income areas across the county”.
Esher and Walton MP Dominic Raab said: “Surrey taxpayers pay over £5billion a year to central Government, but get back just a third of the national average level of funding for local services.
“We face tough spending decisions in the months ahead. So, it is vital that the criteria for allocating funding for our roads, schools, policing and other services are based on an objective assessment of need - not the politicised priorities of the last Government.”
