From community correspondent Steve Wicks: A Queen's Guide Award was presented to Becky Haines this week by her mentor Liz Smith. This is the highest award for a girl in Guiding and represents considerable effort and achievement. Becky, who lived in New Malden and who is now working as a research scientist in Singapore was back in the UK for a short break. She managed to find time to put together an outstanding display showing her many activities undertaken to achieve the award. Part of her work was a review of Kingston's provision for children in care which was triggered by her visit to the Ukraine with Guides where she was initially involved in this work.
Becky has also been a key member of the Kingston and Malden Scout and Guide Band, playing for several years and also helping the younger members.
'Becky has been an excellent example of someone fulfilling all the requirements for the award - not just doing the minimum, but exceeding the requirements and taking them further' said Liz.
