The Pope’s plane has touched down in Britain, and the pontiff is just hours away from arriving in Wimbledon.
Benedcit XVI will stay at the Papal Nunciature in Parkside during his four-day visit to the country. He is expected to arrive at the building, the home of the Vatican’s ambassador to Britain, at about 10.30pm.
Crowds are expected to gather outside the building to welcome the Pope to the area. A police operation to protect the site is underway, but this morning Parkside was open to traffic.
The pontiff has begun his visit in Scotland, but is set to touch down at Heathrow at 9pm. He will stay at the Nunciature between public appearances at Westminster Cathedral, Hyde Park and Twickenham, Before leaving the area by helicopter from Wimbledon Park on Sunday morning.
