Police hunting a man who allegedly went on the run after threatening utility workers with a sword have arrested a 52-year-old this morning.
Firearms officers and a Surrey Police helicopter launched a huge manhunt after the suspect was said to have fled from his home in Worthfield Close, West Ewell, at 2pm on Wednesday after confronting the men and slashing their van tyres.
Specialist units and cops from Epsom CID searched different addresses he was linked with, including one in Plough Road, Ewell, yesterday.
Detectives arrested a 52-year-old, from West Ewell, in Nork Park at about 11.20am this morning and took him to Reigate Police Station.
Detective Inspector David Cooper, leading the investigation, said: “Following the incident on Wednesday we launched a massive manhunt to locate the suspect who threatened utility workers with a sword.
“Many, many officers worked long and hard and I hope the community is reassured by this recent development.
“We remain committed to establishing the facts that led up to this incident and the gentleman arrested will be assisting officers with their enquiries.”
