The girls’ football team from Molesey Juniors was invited to Wembley stadium recently, where they had their photograph taken with England World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst.
The team, which recently represented Team Elmbridge at the P&G Surrey Youth Games, were asked to appear at the National McDonald’s Festival by the Surrey Football Association.
Every year the Surrey Youth Games helps Molesey Juniors recruit a new crop of young female players to fill their U9 team and develop their U11 side.
Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and cultural services at Elmbridge Council, said: “It is wonderful to see this group of girls has entered sport through the P&G Surrey Youth Games.
“To meet England legend Sir Geoff Hurst and play football at Wembley stadium would have been an amazing experience for all involved and will inspire them in their first competitive season.”
The club is recruiting girls in the seven to 11 and 15 to 16 age groups who want to get involved in football for the coming season.
For more information on joining the team, visit the club’s website moleseyjuniors.co.uk or contact the sports development officer at Elmbridge Council by calling 01372 474581 or emailing sport@elmbridge.
