Crystal Palace had Julian Speroni to thank as they earned themselves a point from a hard fought draw with Burnley at Selhurst Park.

The Argentine shot-stopper pulled off a string of world-class saves as the Clarets searched for their first away win of the season.

But Palace had their fair share of chances to take the lead in what was an entertaining game.

As early as the 4th minute Blackburn loanee Alex Marrow, starting at right-back for the second successive game, stormed down the flank to whip in a cross to Kieran Djilali, only for the Palace winger to blaze over at the far post.

Moments later Djilali turned provider, crossing to Neil Danns, but the midfielder’s header was straight at Brian Jensen in the Burnley goal.

In the 23rd minute Andrew Dorman’s shot from the edge of the area presented Jensen with a sterner test, but the Dane was able to tip over.

Speroni wasn’t able to get his fingers to Chris Eagles’ 25th minute rocket, but his 35 yard effort only found the cross-bar.

After the break Palace couldn’t get in the game as Burnley, but Brian Laws’ men could not find a way past Speroni for all their possession.

Pick of the saves were just before the hour, both from Jay Rodriguez, who really should have scored with both his chances. When the Burnley-born striker did have the beating of Speroni towards the end of the game, the woodwork again came to Palace’s rescue.

Wilfried Zaha, back after a three-game suspension and on as a substitute, almost conjured a goal out of nothing midway through the second-half.

But it was Danns’ who nearly nicked all three points at the death when his injury time shot was pushed onto the post by Jensen, but a late winner would have been harsh on Burnley.
