Molesey 4 Brockenhurst 1

Molesey had their second qualifying round match today after a hard fought extra time win against Dorking was rewarded with a home time with Brockenhurst who made a relatively long trip from the New Forest to face Molesey for the right to get into the first round proper and an away trip to Egham Town.

Molesey were looking to bounce back from a defeat the previous Saturday against Ash and Steve Webb had to work hard to get a team out when most of the squad is away from the pitch for one reason or another.

James Duke was called into the first team to fill in at left back whilst the Moles usual left back, Luke Elliott was put at centre back to try and plug the hole left due to the missing Moses Spencer and Jordan McCartney.

Aimee Blessing and Dariush Heravi kept their places in the team from the mid-week fixture against South Park.

Molesey looked to start brightly against their opposition who are currently sitting in a lowly second bottom position in their league.

The lack of confidence in the opposition was there for everyone to see though and Molesey were gifted the lead as early as the third minute.

Brockenhurst took a free kick too quickly and after being pressed by Heravi forced a back pass that was over hit and just too far away from the 'keeper and saw the ball roll into the back of the net in one of the most bizarre own goals seen at Molesey for quite some time.

Brockenhurst were still reeling from this odd setback when a corner wasn't properly cleared and after the ball bounced around the area for a short bit the ball fell to Ashley Lodge who fired in from close range to double the Moles lead within the first ten minutes.

Molesey were running rampant over a team that were struggling to cope with a marauding Moles midfield which was sweeping all before them.

Molesey had a great chance to score a third when Aimee Blessing did well to bring the ball down before lobbing the 'keeper, the ball was heading into the net when a superb last minute slide on to the line deflected the ball on to the post and denied Aimee Blessing the chance to score one of the better goals scored at Walton Road in some time.

Molesey were unlucky again on the 26th minute when Ashley Lodges cross found Dariush Heravi whose half volley was blocked on the line by a desperate Badgers defender.

Brockenhurst were working really hard to stop the Moles from increasing the lead and ending the match in the first half. However, in the 32nd minute Molesey scored the important third goal to put the game all but safe just after the half hour mark. A free kick that was not cleared well enough bounced out to James McShane who caught the ball perfectly on the volley and fired it into the roof of the net from around the penalty spot.

The last 15 minutes before half time saw Molesey take their foot off of the pedal and allowed Brockenhurst back into the game. But even with their increased possession Brockenhurst couldn't find a way to get near the Molesey goal and Molesey were always looking dangerous on the counter attack.

Molesey looked to step up their game in the second half but after Ashley Lodge failed to chip Nick O'Donnell in the Brockenhurst goal, Molesey were again forced under a little bit of pressure from their visitors who were looking to make sure they weren't going home with nothing to show from the game.

Heravi had a shot from close range excellently saved by the the Brockenhurst 'keeper following more good work from Ashley Lodge on the wing.

However, straight after that Colin Harris in the Molesey goal was forced to pick the ball out of his own net after Warren Kenna fired a shot straight into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Ian Lishmund was forced from the pitch in the 64th minute and was replaced by Ashley Fashanu.

And it was one of Fashanu's first touches that the Moles again put the game to bed when Ashley Lodges cross was eventually powered into the net by Ashley Fashanu from close range, marking his first goal for the club.

As the game was winding up there was one last bit of bad news for the Moles when James McShane had to be carried from the pitch with suspected ligament damage in the last few minutes.

Moleseys 4-1 win means they now have a trip to Egham in the next round as they bid to have a good season in the FA Vase to mirror their attempt two years ago.

Molesey's next game is at Walton Road against Sandhurst as they return to league action.
