Staff who were there when John Lewis Kingston opened its doors for the first time 20 years ago were guests of honour at the anniversary celebrations at the weekend.
On Wednesday, September 8, 300 guests attended a talk by the building's architect Paul Koralek.
Staff present for the opening day in 1990, those involved in the construction and charities comprised the audience.
On Friday, September 10, the mayor of Kingston, Councillor Chrissie Hitchcock, unveiled a mosaic mural on the outside of the building, designed by one of the store's partners, Yasha Shrimpton, and produced by environmental charity Save the World Club.
All partners had a chance to place a tile to mark the anniversary.
Then on September 11, the mayor returned to open the doors to a fanfare and stilt walkers.
The first 20 customers were handed a £20 gift voucher and retired partners, as staff who own a share of the company are known, were invited to the branch to hand out cake, sweets and flags.
Midwives from Kingston Hospital were also in the store, giving out baby advice.
The finale to the celebrations on Sunday night was a party in the police grounds of Imber Court, where all current partners partied to live music.
