A campaign group set up to stop houses being built on a recreation space in East Molesey have said they will continue the fight, despite the developers backing down from the plans.
Bloor Homes have withdrawn plans to build 63 houses and 13 flats on fields next to the Pavilion Club in Hurst Lane, after Sport England, an agency responsible for grass roots sports, criticised the move.
The fields are currently protected for recreation by a covenant, but developers had offered to make up for this loss by investing in Esher Rugby Club.
Sport England dismissed this proposal, saying Esher Ruby Club was too far away and therefore the deal would not constitute offering the local community new provision.
However, despite the withdrawal of the application, residents fighting the plans have vowed to continue their campaign after Bloor Homes said they would submit another application in the future.
