Fundraisers dressed as medieval pilgrims will set off tomorrow on a three day journey on horseback from Epsom to Canterbury.
Former jockey Caroline Baldock, 62, of the Epsom Equestrian Conservation Group, will ride with two companions to raise money for a horse museum.
They will trot along some of the ancient Canterbury pilgrims’ road, and plan to arrive on Sunday. They will try to retrace the journey as it was when horses were the main form of transport.
Epsom and Ewell mayor Clive Smitheram and Reverend Simon Talbot wished Mrs Baldock and her horse good luck last week when they met at St Martin’s Church, in Church Street, Epsom.
The pilgrims will be greeted by a formal reception, and the Dean of Canterbury will give them a blessing. It will be the first time horses have been allowed inside the cathedral precinct.
