A man has been charged with the murder of a 19 month old baby in an arson attack.
Toddler Siariah Letang from Thornton Heath was killed after flames tore through her grandmother Brenda Ricketts’ first-floor maisonette in Camberwell on Saturday.
She died of carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke inhalation, according to the results of a provisional post mortem examination carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital yesterday.
Her 11-year-old aunt Shakira Jackson remains in a critical condition in hospital following the fire, which was started as the family slept.
Siariah’s mother Ellisha, 23, four-year-old brother Cameron and 40-year-old grandmother are described as being in a serious but stable condition.
Richard Curtis Kwayke, 27, of Andover Road, Twickenham will appear in custody at Tower Bridge Magistrates Court this morning charged with the murder of a Siariah Letang in Arnould Avenue, Camberwell on Saturday, the attempted murder of four other people at the same address and arson with intent to endanger life.
Josephine Nicolas, 46, of Wilmcote House, Paddington appears charged with perverting the course of justice.
A 28-year-old woman arrested in connection with the investigation has been bailed to return to a south London police station pending further enquiries.
A 19-year-old man remains in custody at a south London police station.
