New Wimbledon Theatre celebrates its centenary with a charity gala this Sunday.
Arguably the UK’s most potty-mouthed pensioner, Joannie “Nan” Taylor, (aka actress Catherine Tate) will star alongside a host of celebrity guests and friends of the theatre as it commemorates 100 years of entertainment at the the venue – which first opened on Boxing Day 1910.
The show’s line-up includes master of ceremonies Shane Richie alongside comedy from Alistair McGowan, Barry Cryer, Bobby Davro, Joe Pasquale and Paul Zerdin.
Music comes from Faryl Smith, Four Poofs and a Piano, Gareth Gates, Ruth Lorenzo and the Unconventionals with dance performances by Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures and Britain’s Got Talent finalists Stavros Flatley.
There will also be appearances from June Whitfield, This Morning hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, and a celebration of Wimbledon’s very own world premiere musicals Half A Sixpence and Oliver.
The night, directed by Kevin Bishop, who is no stranger to the stage having directed several Royal Variety Performances, Bafta ceremonies and high-profile comedy events, will incorporate music, comedy, dance and tributes to the “Grand Old Lady of Wimbledon’s Broadway”, as the venue is affectionately known to all of the artists appearing on the bill.
All profits will be split between charities the Entertainment Artistes Benevolent Fund and the Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust.
