A 17-year-old fashion student at a Wandsworth college saw her latest creation modelled on the catwalk during London Fashion Week.

Michelle Smith, a pupil at St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College, entered an outfit as part of the 2010 Fashion Awareness Direct Junior Awards.

She was inspired by the Victoria and Albert Museum’s new Medieval and Renaissance galleries to create her purple, scrunched silk dress for the competition final.

Supported by a team of tutors, technicians and student mentors, the 16 to 19-year-olds had only five days in which to construct their designs for the catwalk final last week.

Despite the project drawing to a close, the finalists still have plenty to look forward to as they embark on two days of visits to Marks & Spencer, River Island and Vauxhall Fashion Scout where they will have a chance to see behind the scenes of the UK fashion industry.
