A comedy filmed in Sutton will premiere on television next month.
PhoneShop, an E4 sitcom script-edited by Ricky Gervais, was shot throughout the town centre during the summer and was based in the former Sussex Stationers shop in Sutton High Street.
The show, about the lives of employees at a phone shop, was directed by Phil Bowker, who produced the Bafta nominated comedy Pulling, and has worked with comedians such as Harry Hill and Matt Lucas.
The series stars a number of up- and-coming actors such as Tom Bennett, Andrew Brooke, Emma Fryer and Martin Trenaman, who appears in the award-winning comedy, the Inbetweeners.
It will make its debut on E4 on Thursday, October 7, and could transfer to Channel 4 if it proves a hit.
Councilor Jayne McCoy, Sutton Council’s executive member for planning, economic development and housing, said: “An increasing number of TV and film production companies are choosing Sutton for their filming.
“They can help put Sutton on the map, as well as providing a boost to the economy.
“As well as the money people and businesses can make by hiring out their premises, Film London studies show, for every pound spent on filming, production crews spend an additional £2.50 in the area.”
Sutton Council actively promotes locations in the borough and keeps a record of businesses willing to let their premises be used for filming.
Other productions filmed in the borough recently include Channel 4 comedies Misfits and the IT Crowd, and From Time to Time, a fantasy film starring Dame Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall and Hugh Bonneville.
