Met Police have enjoyed the best start to the season in their 91-year history by making it 10 wins in a row over Burgess Hill Town in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Burgess Hill gave them a fright when Steve Harper scored from the spot after Nathan Simpson had harshly been ajudged to have brought down a visitors player.

But the Blues were level 15 minutes later when Vernon Francis went on a great run and pulled the ball back for Eddie Smith to lash home from 18 yards.

Craig Brown had a chance to put the Police ahead shortly afterwards but the midfielder pulled his shot wide.

After the break, Tyron Smith’s 30-yarder went just wide and the Blues had a loud penalty appeal for handball turned down.

Burgess Hill were also causing problems at the other end and Lloyd Skimmer’s run left home keeper Mo Maan stranded only for Nathan Simpson to make a remarkable block on the line.

Craig Watkins volleyed over from eight yards at the other end but the striker made no mistake after 62 minutes, volleying Brown’s cross into the roof of the net.

Burgess Hill were nearly level again four minutes from time but sub Titus Patterson headed over from six yards.

Three minutes into stoppage time, Police sub Gary Drewett broke free and evaded a tackle before beating the keeper only for Town defender Saveiro Arona to spectacularly slide and block the ball on the line.

Met Police host Godalming Town on Wednesday night in the league before hosting Biggleswade in the FA Trophy preliminary round on Saturday.
