Music in the Park 2010, organised by the Rotary Club of Carshalton Beeches, held in the grounds of Carew Manor on the 19th June, was a great success.
Given the days weather forecast the evening thank goodness was dry though a bit chilly.
An audience in excess of 2400 enjoyed being entertained by the music of The Mersey Beatles and The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
A special surprise was “Paul” singing Yesterday as a solo backed by the Orchestra. This bought the crowd to their feet in rapturous applause at the finish.
Though numbers were a bit down, and the costs up, on last year – when all the bills had been paid and the last ticket money received the profit for distribution to local and Rotary charities was close to £9500.
The major beneficiaries received cheques at a presentation meeting at the Dukes Head on Thursday 23rd September.
Representatives of Sutton Association for the Blind, St Raphael’s Hospice, Friends of Orchard Hill and the 1st Wallington Scout Troop each received £2000.
Other beneficiaries include the St John Ambulance, The Vine Project, North Wallington and Ruskin Adventure Scouts, Sutton Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Diamond Riding Centre.
The concert was a great success in providing a wonderful community event.
Needless to say the Rotary Club are very grateful for all the help and support they got, not only from the public for attending but also local organisations, suppliers and services that helped both before and on the night – without their help the event could not go ahead.
Plans are in progress for the 2011 event, which will be a special year, as it will be the 20th Anniversary of the 1st concert.
The Club is keen to hear from any commercial organisations wishing to be associated with this event by way of sponsorship.
Now for the appeal – If you are interested in joining Rotary as a member, want to know more about Rotary or are a commercial organisation that would like to be associated next year’s concert, the Rotary Club of Carshalton Beeches would love to hear from you.
