The Danone Nations Cup World Final is shaping up to be a very special event for two British Schools, writes Stephanie Harwood.
Croydon's Whitgift Independent School and the Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College will both be taking part in this incredible event in Johannesburg, South Africa from September 30 to October 3.
The schools will compete against teams from the five continents of the globe and from 40 other countries.
Whitgift beat off competition from over 700 other schools and 11,000 kids to book their place in the World Final.
They lifted the trophy at a prestigious English final at the famous Premier League ground Stamford Bridge, the home of Premier League title holders Chelsea FC.
The Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College will represent England as the winners of the 2009 competition.
Last year’s World Final, planned for Brazil, had to be postponed due to the H1N1 flu pandemic.
Endorsed by FIFA, the tournament is a celebration of sport which brings together over 2.5 million children in the early rounds from forty different countries and cultures.
It is supported by many legends of the game including the tournament ambassador Zenadine Zidane.
This is the eleventh edition of the Danone Nations Cup and this year, 2010, sees the tournament leave French shores for the first time and head to South Africa.
