Children’s dreams of a new playground in Ashtead are one step closer to becoming a reality after Mole Valley Council unveiled its winning design.
More than 170 people voted online for a park that will include a trampoline, a rope bridge and tower, a hexagonal swing, a water feature and a picnic area, surrounded by plants and trees, in Ashtead Recreation Ground.
Youngsters of all ages will be able to enjoy the playground, although most of the equipment will be for eight to 13-year-olds as they have suffered most from a lack of facilities.
Councillor Chris Reynolds, portfolio holder for environment at Mole Valley Council, said: “The council would like to thank everyone who voted in the consultation.
“We would also like to thank the extremely hard working Ashtead Recreation Campaign. Its members have not only been raising additional funds for the Ashtead scheme but have also helped us during the consultation process.”
The council has pledged to pay £44,100 towards the Ashtead playground, and £50,000 to fund another in Beare Green, if the Government freezes grants for Playbuilder schemes.
Mums who formed the Ashtead Recreation Campaign have also raised more than £10,000 towards the project from events including a curry night, a party in the park and a fashion show.
