A free cycle hire scheme has seen dozens of people swap four wheels for two.
The council backed initiative in Colliers Wood saw 50 bikes handed over to residents for a five week loan this weekend.
The scheme is designed to get more people in the borough swapping their cars for life in the bike lane.
They were loaned out during a roadshow at the Tandem Centre in Christchurch Road on Saturday, which also offered a free bike check-up for residents who already use pedal power.
Councillor Mark Betteridge, deputy leader of Merton Council, said: "This is a unique opportunity for someone to change the way they travel.
"Cycling has so many benefits. Not only is it good for the environment, you can often get around quicker on two wheels rather than four.
"It’s also a great way to keep fit and you don’t have to pay out in fares or petrol costs so, once you’ve bought the bike and equipment, it's good for the pocket too."
