Met Police continue to rewrite the record books after Wednesday night’s 8-1 thrashing of Godalming Town.

It was their biggest league win for 20 years and stretched their winning start to the campaign to 11 matches in all competitions.

But, despite the records continuing to tumble, boss Jim Cooper is not scared to ring the changes for Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with Biggleswade Town.

“We are going to use Saturday to rest a couple of them and let them recuperate before the FA Cup game,” said Cooper.

“We will give a few players a run out and take a look at them.”

The boss reckoned there were signs of legginess in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Burgess Hill Town, when the Blues came from behind to win with goals from Eddie Smith and Craig Watkins.

“That was our worst performance so far but Burgess Hill are a good side,” said Cooper.

But they laid that to rest with Wednesday’s humiliation of third-placed Godalming at Imber Court.

James Field started the ball rolling after 41 seconds and Craig Watkins doubled the advantage after four minutes.

Blues keeper Mo Maan then had to make two fine saves before Watkins got the third.

Watkins completed his hat-trick a minute after the restart and Field, Eddie Smith, Tyron Smith and Neil Lampton all found the net as the Met went goal crazy.

Cooper’s side have been drawn at home to Wealdstone in the FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday, October 9 after the Ryman Premier League side defeated Chesham United 4-1 in their second round replay on Monday night.

Cooper said: “They are in a higher league than us but we are at home and do not fear anyone at the moment.

“We are not after looking at records but we want to keep the run going and challenge on all fronts.”

Metropolitan Police’s next three games: Oct 2 Biggleswade Town (FA Trophy, h), 9 Wealdstone (FA Cup, h), 20 Whitehawk (h).
