The Danone Nations Cup World Final got underway yesterday with the draw to establish which group each of the eighty teams from around the world will participate in.

The draw was staged at the University of Pretoria Sports Ground in front of the 1600 hopeful young footballers from 45 nations.

Whitgift Independent Boys School from Croydon, winners of this year's Danone Nations Cup, are representing England along with Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College.

Whitgift are pleased with their group and feel they stand a good chance of progressing through the early stages of the competition to reach the last sixteen.

They play in Group E and meet Japan, Ukraine, USA and Bangladesh.

Coach Steve Kember said; “We're not going to take anything for granted until we see the standard of play, but we are relieved not to have drawn the teams we perceive to be very strong, such as Brazil, Argentina, France and Spain.

“In our group we're most concerned about the Ukraine and Japan, but we do feel that we stand a good chance of qualifying for the Quarter Finals."
