The trial of three men accused of taking part in an honour killing has begun at the Old Bailey.
Mohammed Saleh Ali, Omar Hussain and Sadar Sharif Mahmood are all accused of murdering Mitcham woman Banaz Mahmod in an alleged honour killing in January 2006.
The 20-year-old’s father Mahmod Mahmod and uncle Ari Mahmod were convicted of her murder in 2007, when a jury heard she had been strangled and her body stuffed in a suitcase.
Ali faces charges of murder, conspiracy to murder and threats to kill, while Hussain faces charges of murder, perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to kidnap. Both have been extradited from Iraq to stand trial in Britain.
Mahmod faces charges of murder, threats to kill, kidnap and assissting an offender.
Their trial began at the Old Bailey on Monday, and is expected to last for five weeks.
