Volunteers at the Rotary Club of Banstead planted 3,000 crocus bulbs infront of All Saints church on Saturday to raise awareness about polio.
The group hope their bid to support Rotary International's Thanks for Life drive - to eradicate polio - will result in the purple flowers bursting into bloom by February 23, 2011.
On this day, the charity will be raising awareness about the disease and its campaign to put an end to it through immunisation which began in 1985.
The purple crocus represents the dye dabbed onto children's fingers to show they have been immunised against the disease.
