A pair of teenage girls have been charged with common assault over a scuffle which ended in a seven-month-old baby being thrown under a bus.
The 14-year-olds, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also charged with shouting racial abuse, while one has been charged with causing actual bodily harm.
Tiny Tavish Dabedeen was hurled into the path of an oncoming double-decker bus during a fight as shocked commuters looked on in horror outside West Croydon station.
Miraculously the infant suffered only minor injuries and bruising during the attack, which happened on July 27.
Distraught members of the public crowded around the tiny baby to see if he was alive and offer assistance to his frantic family, while Tavish’s empty pram stood within the police cordon after cops sealed off the area next to the station.
Tavish’s father Rajiv Dabedeen said after the incident: “I was only minutes away from picking them up when I got the call from the police telling me they had been attacked.
“We were all so relieved when the scans came back from hospital giving Tavish the all-clear, it could have ended much worse.
“In my culture we say every baby has its own angel and our son must have his.”
Both girls have been bailed to appear at Croydon Youth Court on October 8.
