A dedicated gardener who takes care of the best park in London has seen his workplace shortlisted for a national landscaping award.
Terence Meredith - known as Tech - has single-handedly turned Coombe Wood into the capital’s finest green space since taking on the declining park in 2004.
The skilled gardener’s effort was rewarded when the 14-acre park was named the best park in the capital in last year’s London in Bloom competition.
And he has the chance to go one better this year after Coombe Wood was nominated in the final six for the Grounds Maintenance - Free Public Access category of the National Landscape Awards.
Mr Meredith grows his own plants for the park at home and work, harvesting seeds to use the following year, and all the planting scheme and improvements in the green space are his own designs.
Sara Bashford, cabinet member for customer services, culture and sport, said: “Whether or not Coombe Wood takes this award I think it is safe to say that we’ve got a real green jewel at the heart of the borough.”
