Leatherhead boss Mick Sullivan slammed his side’s defensive lapses that cost them a 3-1 defeat at Enfield Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Chico Ramos’ howler helped the hosts into a 2-0 lead when he threw the ball to the feet of Bryan Hammatt, who easily added to Michael Bardle’s breakaway opener.

Hammatt headed a third early in the second half to kill off the game, leaving Kev Terry to net a consolation for the Tanners with 15 minutes remaining after good work from Jack MacLeod.

But it was the mistakes at the back that gave Sullivan cause for concern, although he hoped his inexperienced side took the lesson from the Ryman Division One North leaders on board.

“The tie was over after 50 minutes,” he said.

“It was very disappointing to lose the game. Although Enfield were the better side, we gave them three goals and it was always uphill battle from there.

“Enfield slowed the game down and frustrated us in the second half, which is something we have to learn from.”

MacLeod’s chances of recovering from an ankle injury in time for Saturday’s trip yo Horsham YMCA are rated at 50-50 by boss Sullivan.

Leatherhead will be looking to continue their impressive start to the Division One South campaign, which sees them second in the table with one defeat in ten matches thus far.

Leatherhead's next three games: Oct 9 Horsham YMCA (a), 16 Oct Walton & H'ham (h) 19 Oct Chessington & Hook (h).
