Little Riley Celyn Shiers got a christening that will be talked about for years to come after her dad arranged their transport to the church - in an Eddie Stobart lorry.

The six-month-old girl arrived in style at St Mary and St Nicholas Parish Church, in Church Road, Leatherhead, with her name emblazoned across the front of the huge truck.

And she is set to appear in a Channel Five documentary about the legendary haulage company, featuring her christening ceremony, at 8pm next Friday.

Proud dad Will Shiers, editor of the Sutton-based Truck and Driver magazine, said: “It is definitely one of the perks of being the editor of Truck and Driver.

“I just hope Riley is as excited about it as I am. I think she probably will be, after all she's already a huge truck fan.”

The 38-year-old, of Poplar Road, Leatherhead, travelled with his baby daughter in the massive green and white Volvo FH truck, while mum Meredith, 30, and the other guests waited outside the church to cheer Riley as she arrived for her big day.

All of the 2,000 iconic Eddie Stobart lorries feature a unique girl’s name on the front of their cabs.

Mr Shiers needed to pull some strings to convince the company that his daughter was worthy of joining their fleet, as the Stobart Members Club is usually only entitled to the honour.

The famous truck spotters faithfully follow the Eddie Stobart lorries across the length and breadth of the country.

The haulage company was filmed in a six-part series “Eddie Stobart: Trucks and Trailers” to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year.

Reverend Graham Osborne conducted the christening ceremony on August 29, at the same church where Mr Shiers turned up in a truck to marry his wife on May 1 last year.
