I would like to reassure Sutton Guardian readers the town centre is not being newly dug up.
The continuing work represents areas of finishing off, including final areas of paving being laid at the entrences to the St Nicholas Centre, replacement of temporary asphalt with final treatment for trees, and general tidying up.
It is unfortunate these items were not able to be completed before the Art of Suburbia festival and Sutton Council will ensure the relevant bodies take responsibility for this.
I would like to thank residents for their patience during the period of disruption in the high street.
They will soon be able to enjoy their improved environment free of barriers and workmen.
My experience of the skateboarders who frequent the town centre has been that they are considerate and cause no trouble or damage.
The town centre is there for all ages to enjoy and as lond as each shows consideration to others there is no reason for anyone to be excluded.
The town centre rebuild is a major investment in our town's prosperity that will bring benefits for businesses, new employment opportunities and raises the profile of Sutton as a place for enterprise - a result all residents will reap the rewards of.
