Old Meadonians reached the quarter-finals of the London Old Boys Cup thanks to a convincing win over Premiership rivals Parkfield at Riverside Lands on Saturday.
Meads shut the visitors out to such an extent that keeper Gary Robinson had just one notable save to make in the whole match.
At the other end, Matt Hodson made a fabulous save to keep out a Jack Costello free kick that looked destined for the top corner and also great saves from Andy Thompson and Peter Eguae.
Meads’ opener came after 25 minutes. Full back Nick Jones broke up an attack on the right and fed Will Gerrish.
Gerrish’s instant cross-field pass to the left gave left-back Dwayne Rhone the perfect angle 30 yards out to put Eguae in on the keeper to slot home.
The second half saw more of the same total football with the hosts topping up the score book with two tap-ins that underlined the pace of their attacks.
On the hour Meads broke up another attack on the right and the ball was rapidly fed on to Thompson who fed Colin Hawkins from the goal line for number two.
With ten minutes to go another triangular move involving Nick Jones and Gerrish left Costello free to pull the ball back for Thompson’s just reward.
With the whole team excelling concertedly the management gave the MoM award to the back four and Gary Robinson jointly.
Team: Robinson, N. Jones, McCombe, Pointer, Rhone, Costello, Gerrish, Thompson, (Granville), Quinn, (Grahame), Hawkins, (A. Jones), Eguae.
