After my attempt at positivity in last week's column was blown off course by the thuggish antics of Paul Ince and his mob of Notts County reprobates, I've decided that nothing is going to stop me now.
I’m not even going to allow the facts that the Bees have just lost two matches on the bounce and our strikeforce is currently about as dangerous as my granny wielding a rubber knife to sour my mood.
For some reason I couldn't bring myself to pay a visit to the oasis of high-culture that is Hartlepool on Saturday and the defeat we suffered oop north sounds like it was as appalling as Tuesday night’s loss to Brighton was frustrating.
Yet putting this pair of results to one side I’d say Brentford supporters should be satisfied with how Nicky Forster and his assistant Mark Warburton have got the team playing since Andy Scott's departure.
The grumbles from a collection of moaners on the Ealing Road terrace, imploring the team to “get it forward”, will hopefully be ignored by the management team and the players.
I’m sure these were the same supporters calling on the team to “pass it” not too long ago, but I guess it’s just a fact of life that some people will never be happy.
As far as I’m concerned it’s a joy to watch a Bees side trying to play a bit of football, rather than watching the hideous hit and hope tactics we’ve been subjected to in the past.
That is not to say that there is not plenty of room for improvement. As I’ve already mentioned, Brentford’s cutting edge is rather conspicuous by its absence at the moment and it’s clear that our steady build up play is breaking down on the edge of area far too often for anyone’s liking.
Clearly patience is required as the team adapts to its new style and I’d suggest that, with Charlie MacDonald facing a period on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the Brighton game, it might be a good time to play Nicholas Bignall, Lewis Grabban or Myles Weston up front with Robbie Simpson or Gary Alexander to help inject a bit of pace into the forward line.
If we can sharpen up in the final third then I’m confident we’ll start picking up points again – starting at Charlton on Saturday.
