Royal Wedding fever is breaking out after Sutton Council waived administration costs and slashed red tape for residents wanting to hold street parties.
Prince William ties the knot with Kate Middleton on Friday, April 29 and already dozens of neighbourhood groups and organisations have planned to celebrate the big day.
But that number is set to rise after the warm-hearted council removed all the street closure charges and reduced the paperwork involved to just a single online form.
Normally there is considerable cost to close a road because of central government legislation meaning people have to pay for a public notice.
Councillor Ruth Dombey, community engagement spokesman, said: “The Royal Wedding should be a fantastic day when communities, neighbours and the whole country comes together to celebrate this happy occasion.
“We are offering a helping hand financially too by waiving the cost involved with closing a road.”
Residents interested in holding a street party, however, must register their event before 1 April.
