Molesey saw their stuttering late season form continue after another disappointing performance made it five defeats in the last six games ruined any chance of silverware this season (barring the Surrey Senior Cup, the next round of which is away to Carshalton on Tuesday).
The Moles had to name a changed team from previous weeks. Jordan McCartney came back into the team to replace Moses Spencer who was absent through work. Louis Taylor made his first team debut when he came in for the missing Danny Coombes.
The game kicked off in unusually warm and sunny climate, which may be why Molesey had such a slow start to the game. The game started at a very sedate pace which was more fitting for a pre-season friendly rather than a league game.
The first chance came in the 17th minute when after a period of sustained Cove pressure Luke Elliott threw himself in front of the ball, then Wester Young made a good close range save to keep the scores level.
However, it proved to only be slightly delaying the inevitable. Molesey hadn't started when in the 20th minute they found themselves behind.
Jordan McCartney grossly misjudged a header towards Wester Young which saw Cove gain possesion right in front of goal, luck went against the Moles however and following Youngs brave save the ball rebounded off of Joe Yeates shins and flew into the corner of the net giving the home side the lead.
Before Molesey had mustered a reaction they were two goals down when a simple corner saw Joe Yeates lose his man and give Tom McGarry an easy back post header to double the lead.
Two minutes later Molesey briefly thought they were back in the game but Arnold Tawonezvi's little flick right in front of the 'keeper was ruled out for offside.
Molesey rang the changes at half time as Louis Taylor and Joe Pratley-Jones were both withdrawn for Marlon Rodney and Reggie Savage.
But the changes didn't give Molesey the spark they needed and after putting a one on one chance wide, Molesey gifted the home side a third and deciding goal.
Joe Yeates made a rash challenge in the box which everyine could see was a penalty. Tim McGarry stepped up and smashed the ball into the corner making Young dive the wrong way at the same time.
Molesey made their last change to bring on Doug Ford for Andy Graves.
Molesey were a bit improved in the second half and the change to 4-4-2 and and increased tempo definately helped the visitors.
Molesey got a consolation for their improved second half showing when a long ball was expertly taken down by Reggie Savage who then turned well and hit a good strike into the corner to make the score a bit more respectable.
But it wasn't enough for the Moles and although everyone underperformed Joe Yeates will want to forget this game after scoring an own goal, losing a man from a corner leading to a goal and conceding a penalty.
His mood won't be helped by the silly booking in the first half for kicking the ball away.
So Molesey travel into what could be their last meaningful game of the season away at Carshalton. Victoy there and Molesey will still have a chance for a trophy, defeat and the Moles will be looking to next season.
