Building work is gathering pace at Fircroft Trust’s new home for adults with learning disabilities.
The development on the former White Hart pub site in Hook was delayed by time taken by Kingston Council to process the planning application.
The building is now expected to be finished after Christmas.
Susannah Horwood said: “It is going really well. Everybody who was been on the site can absolutely see what we are doing and has decided to support us.
“It is like a giant Meccano set at the moment.”
Residents had visited the building site from their homes in Surbiton to see for themselves where they could be living.
Mrs Horwood said: “They were really excited. One did say I don’t want to live here but we said ‘don’t worry because there will be a house for you ready’.”
