With only one game to go, the season is almost done and dusted, I for one am mightily relieved.
We lost a manager, lost a final at Wembley and plenty of fans lost their rags along the way.
The only thing that was consistent about the Bees in 2010-11 was our ridiculous inconsistency, but at least the annual Ealing (Road) Comedies awards will help end the season on a high….
Player of the season: Alarm bells started ringing at the start of the season about Andy Scott’s man-management skills with his ridiculous snubbing of Richard Lee. Fortunately, Lee fought his was into the team and was the Bees’ shining light.
Highlight of the season: Beating Everton at Griffin Park will live long in the memory – although I almost never made it into the ground as my brother managed to drop our tickets between the car and the turnstiles. Thankfully no one had nabbed them from the pavement and I didn’t have to disown him.
Lowlight of the season: Going to Dagenham is never going to be anyone’s idea of fun and that has never been truer on that bleak Tuesday night in February when the Bees took a 4-1 beating and the curtain came down on Andy Scott’s reign.
Most typical Brentford moment: The Paint Pot Trophy Final. Enough said.
Villain of the season: Paul Ince brought his thuggish Notts County mob to Griffin Park and they were an absolute disgrace. Although I’m a committed atheist I am happy to concede there might be a God after all because only a few weeks later Ince found himself collecting his P45.
Photo of the season: Not only did Jane Jewell’s image from the Paint Pot Trophy Final win the club-organised photo competition, but it has gone one better and picked up a coveted E(R)C gong too. The photo sums the true essence of what it means to support Brentford, as it depicts a young fan about to burst into tears.
Most overused phrase of the season: I can’t be the only Bees supporter who reminded all and sundry that ‘he played for us last season’ every time Wojciech Szczesny popped up in an Arsenal match.
