Advice on major traffic disruption in Putney caused by next month’s 2012 Olympic cycling test race is to be provided at a special drop-in session for residents.

The London Surrey Cycle Classic, which takes place on Sunday, August 14, will force the closure of a number of main roads including Putney Bridge, Putney High Street, the Upper Richmond Road between Putney High Street and Priory Lane and Priory Lane from 4am.

The circuit is a loop and riders are first expected to first pass through the area at around 9:10am and return at around midday. Roads are expected to re-open at about 3pm.

Parking will not be allowed anywhere along the route from 8pm on Saturday evening until the roads are reopened on Sunday afternoon. Bus routes will also be affected, but night buses will continue to operate on the route until 7am.

The drop-in session for Putney residents has been arranged at Putney Library on July 27 between 2.30pm and 7.30pm, so people learn more and quiz transport and Olympics officials about the event itself and the traffic impact.

Cabinet member for environment and culture, Councillor Jonathan Cook, said: "We recognise this is a chance for Putney people to see a world-class sporting event for free, and want everyone to have a good time, but have been concerned about the impact this race will have on Putney and the disruption it will cause for residents and motorists.

"I would urge people to attend the drop-in session to ensure they know exactly what is in store and can plan accordingly."
