A motorist with a mission is planning to embark on the drive of his life by taking on the Mongol Rally for charity.
Clapham resident John Martin will be setting off with two friends from Goodwood Racecourse on July 23 - and attempt to drive 10,000 miles to Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, in a second-hand car.
The trio - known as Team Terremoto - hope to raise £1 for every mile of their trip to support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research's work investigating blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Mr Martin, 27, of Claylands Road, said: "We’ve all spent a year or two abroad but nothing on this scale. There’s so much to plan - visas, insurance, equipment - but we’re really excited. There’ll be ups and downs, highs and lows - but as long as the car keeps going, we’ll keep going."
By the end of their journey in a nine-year-old Nissan Almera, the team will have driven to 20 countries, tackled unforgiving temperatures and crossed volatile regions such as Northern Afghanistan - without any mechanical support.
