The first homes in a multi-million pound redevelopment of a Sutton estate have been unveiled.
A total of 34 new homes on the Durand Close estate were shown to residents last week.
The original 295-home, 1960s estate is being replaced with more than 430 homes, a restored riverside path and a new shop and community centre.
The project is funded through affordable housing provider Affinity Sutton and the sale of private property within the development.
Sutton Council also received a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.
As members of the partnership residents have been involved in the design process, making decisions about everything from the layout of their new eco-homes to the colour of kitchen units.
When the rebuilding work is complete, pedestrian and cycle routes will also make it easy for residents to use green forms of transport and car club vehicles will be based on site.
Councillor Jayne McCoy, the council’s housing spokeswoman, said: "This is the first step in revitalising the area and transforming it into a place residents will be proud of."
