A family joined hundreds of people in London on Sunday, July 17, to take part in a fundraising walk.
The Baker family from Walton were raising money at the Heart of London Bridges Walk, organised by charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (Cry), in honour of Paul Baker, who died from an undiagnosed heart condition in May 2009, when he was 19.
Since Paul’s death, the family, including mother Dianah Baker, have taken part in numerous events to raise money and awareness for Cry.
The walk, now in its fifth year, started in Embankment at 10.30am and finished at the Hay’s Galleria, close to London Bridge, taking in 12 of London’s most famous landmarks to represent the deaths of 12 apparently healthy young people who die every week in the UK from undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
In the past five years, the walk has raised more than £200,000 to provide counselling to affected families, the Cry centre for cardiac pathology at the Royal Brompton Hospital, medical research and the Cry national screening programme.
Alison Cox, chief executive and founder of the charity, said: “We are privileged to have so many wonderful supporters from all corners of the UK and are immensely grateful that the Baker family joined us for this challenging and emotional event.
“This walk has become a really positive experience for all those involved and we know that many people from their local area were supporting them on this special day.”
