Norwegian international Jonathan Parr turned down a lucrative deal at Danish club Brondby to join Crystal Palace.
In an interview with Norwegian television channel TV 2, the 22-year-old revealed the wages offered by Brondby were double what was on the table from Palace.
But it was the Eagles that snared the highly-rated left-back, who was also reportedly interesting Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City, Leicester City, Rosenborg, Valerenga and Molde, on a three-year deal.
"I will eventually see if this is the correct step," he said.
"But I feel now it is a suitably big step.
"I get to play here, instead of going even higher and risk sitting on the bench a lot.
"Taking small steps at a time might be better than trying to go straight up and have to go back.
"I feel that this is a step in the right direction and hope I can continue to develop here.
"I have a good feeling at Palace.
"The impressions I have received here are very positive, I had a long talk with the manager and got a very positive impression of him as well.
"He has seen me play and I thought that was very good, it seemed as if they would back me and that is of course important when you go to a new club."
Freedman will be watching Parr, who is doing a bachelor's degree in ecomonics, closely tonight after Palace and his former club Aelesund came to an agreement he could play for the Norwegians against Ferencvaros in a Europa League qualifier.
He will also play in the Norwegian league match against Stabaek on Sunday evening before joining up with the Eagles on Monday.
"I am glad that Aalesund and Palace came to an agreement that I can travel a little," he said.
"There will be no resting on laurels, now it is full throttle."
