A former police cadet, who was paralysed in a horse riding accident, is getting funding support from Kingston Police.
Joe Gadd, who travelled to America to peruse his dream of becoming a riding instructor last year, was crushed by a horse that lost its footing and fell on him.
Despite two spine stabilisation operations the 19-year-old is now paralysed from the mid chest, a situation that could become permanent if he doesn’t receive medical treatment.
Joe contracted pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome while in hospital in Cleveland, Georgia but has been stabilised and is looking for the long and intense rehabilitation to start.
Kingston Police are helping to raise money for his hospital treatment.
His family have set up a facebook page, Friends of Joe Gadd, if anyone who knows Joe, or wishes to support his family, can follow his progress and make donations.
A family fundraising day is being held for Joe at Dinton Fields in North Kingston on Sunday, July 24 from 1pm to 7pm and at the Fighting Cocks pub later in the evening with many bands performing.
