Police have moved to quash rumours former-Brit school student Amy Winehouse died of a drug overdose.

The Grammy-winning singer was found dead at her house in Camden Square shortly before 4pm yesterday (Saturday, July 23).

Officers pronounced the 27-year-old dead at the scene.

Rumours have been rife that her death is the result of a drug overdose, following a well-documented past with drugs and alcohol.

But Superintendent Raj Kohli was quick to issue a statement saying no post-mortem examination had taken place and until then the cause of death was unknown.

He said: “Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained and there have been no arrests in connection with the incident.

“I am aware of reports suggesting this death is the result of a suspected drugs overdose, but I would like to re-emphasise that no post-mortem examination has yet taken place and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of death.”

Miss Winehouse, perhaps the most famous graduate of the Brit school in Selhurst, shot to international fame with her album Back to Black.

She had recently cancelled a comeback tour of Europe with concerns over her health and suspicions she was struggling with a drinking problem.
