Lambeth will receive a share of £600,000 for sporting activity cash, the Mayor of London has announced.
Some £7,000 will be invested immediately through small 'Freesport' grants - awarded to sports clubs and community groups to provide free coaching in football, swimming, basketball, tennis and cycling. The cash will also be used to promote healthier lifestyles among people living in the borough.
Lambeth will also be entitled to money for sports programmes, including wheelchair basketball, touch rugby and a football, volunteering and employment skills programme targeted at teenagers.
The money is part of Mayor Boris Johnson's £12million investment in grassroots sports projects ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.
He said: "We are storming ahead to revamp facilities and increase sports participation across the board. I am absolutely clear that to create a lasting legacy from the London Games, we must do all we can to get people out of their living rooms and into physical activity."
The Mayor's commissioner for sport, Kate Hoey, said: "The projects we are announcing all have the potential to make a real difference to the lives of ordinary people."
