Wandsworth's annual birthrate has risen once again - reaching a new record high.
The number of babies born each year in the borough has increased by 29 per cent over the last 10 years.
Now, the total number of births for mothers living in Wandsworth stands at 5,400 - 100 more than last year and a rise of 1,200 compared to the total for 2000/2001.
The data was compiled by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), and it includes all births between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. Wandsworth's birth rate is the third highest amongst all 33 London boroughs, falling just below Ealing with 5,700 births and Newham with 6,100.
Wandsworth Council's executive member for finance and corporate resources, Councillor Guy Senior, put the rise down to the borough being "a highly desirable place to bring up children".
Mid-year population data is available on the ONS website at statistics.gov.uk.
