A father who dedicates his time to helping his son with his homework and taking him on day trips has been nominated for parent of the year.
Steve Junor, 52, said he felt over the moon when he learned his wife Althia had nominated him for a Croydon Champions award.
On the nomination form, his wife wrote: "My husband Steve is such a wonderful father to our son. He does all he can to help him in his development by taking him to the park, to football and to the library and by helping him with his homework.
"He sets good, moral standards for him by talking to him about his behaviour, which is important in these trying times. My husband is simply a great role model, not only as a father but also as a Christian."
The dedicated dad, who is father to nine-year-old Nathan, works as an administrator. He said he was simply helping to keep his son on the straight and narrow and was keen to show him his support.
"I think it's very important to be involved in his life. My parents split up when I was little and I had to fend for myself from a young age," he said.
"It was very hard not having parental support, and knowing how difficult things can be I just want Nathan to know I am behind him 100 percent."
Every week we feature some of Croydon’s heroes on this page and need your nominations. Nominees will be shortlisted and invited to an awards ceremony in November.
