A group of travellers has set up camp with their caravans on Streatham Common.
Councillors Daphne Marchant and Judy Best spotted the camp of 14 vehicles, nine of them motorised, just after 9am this morning.
It is not yet known whether the travellers are the same as a group who parked their caravans at the site earlier this month. A Lambeth council spokesman said they were taking “swift action” to move the travellers on with the help of police.
Councillor Alex Davies said: “The Common is an open space for the whole community. It must not and cannot be taken over by anyone.
“The council and the police need to work to move them swiftly on because we are not going to put up with this. The longer they are there the more entrenched they are going to be.”
